The Dominican Republic Node of the Virtual Campus for Public Health launches the online course on tutor training for network learning

Panama, 20 July 2023 (PAHO)- The Dominican Republic node of the Virtual Campus for Public Health of the Pan American Health Organization (VCPH/PAHO) launched the second edition of the virtual course "Training of tutors for network learning" with more than 35 participants. The course is expected to last for ten weeks, from July 16 to September 24, 2023, and offers an overview of the different tasks and functions related to the management of online training programs.

Panama, 15 July 2023 (PAHO) - The Virtual Campus of the Pan American Health Organization (VCPH/PAHO) participated in the event #LearningSavesLives: OpenWHO stories from around the world on July 13, 2023, organized by OpenWHO, the free learning platform of the World Health Organization (WHO).

The online event was focused on showcasing how learners have used the OpenWHO.org learning platform to protect public health in their communities.

“Since the start of the pandemic, and in active collaboration with OpenWHO, the Virtual Campus responded quickly to virtualization and capacity-building needs, offering the first course in Spanish on COVID-19 in February 2020 and working together with OpenWHO to translate material into Spanish and Portuguese, making it available to people on both platforms,” said Gabriel Listovsky, regional coordinator of the Virtual Campus.

The 170th Session of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) Executive Committee concluded with several resolutions passed to strengthen collaboration to support health goals in the Americas, the regional COVID-19 response, and measures to bolster the organization’s ability to support countries, particularly during health emergencies.

Professionals from 15 countries in the region receive training in Mental Health Services Management

Professionals from 15 countries in the region receive training in Mental Health Services Management

48 professionals who manage public mental health services, from 15 countries in the region, enrolled in the Virtual Course on Management of Mental Health Services. The course, which started in May 2022 and is set to end in August of the same year, was designed to help participants acquire the skills and abilities to effectively manage comprehensive and integrated mental health services, centered on the individual, with a community-based vision, an emphasis on primary health care, cultural diversity, human rights, gender, and the fight against stigma. The course is available at the PAHO Virtual Campus for Public Health.

More than 160 people participated in the launch of the course "Introduction to health workforce planning for universal access to health and universal health coverage,” available at the Virtual Campus of Public Health of the Pan American Health Organization.

PAHO launches Introductory Course on Assistive Technology in the Americas

The Pan American Health Organization/World Health Organization (PAHO/WHO), launched the Introductory Course on Assistive Technology in the Americas in a webinar attended by more than 130 people from 22 countries. 

The objective of the course is to increase knowledge on assistive technology to promote its inclusion in the regional agenda and improve access to quality and affordable assistive services and products for the people who need them most: people with some kind of disability, whether permanent or temporary; elderly people and people with a chronic, degenerative health condition or non-communicable disease.

Health care providers from the English-speaking Caribbean participated in a virtual course on Stigma reduction

One hundred and seven primary health care providers from sixteen English speaking countries from the sub-region of the Caribbean (Antigua, Barbuda, Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, Grenada, Guyana, Jamaica, Monserrat, Trinidad & Tobago,  Turks & Caicos, Suriname, Saint Kitts & Nevis, and Saint Lucia), enrolled in the Region’s first virtual course on stigma reduction. The sixteen-week virtual training, organized by the Pan American Health Organization, Mental Health and Substance Use Unit, in collaboration with the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC), aims to reduce stigma within the healthcare setting.

Some 220 professionals complete the course on implementation and strengthening of Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs

Some 220 professionals from countries of the Americas completed the second edition of the Pan American Health Organization's Course on Implementation and Strengthening of Antimicrobial Stewardship (AMS) Programs, hosted at the Virtual Campus for Public Health. This educational initiative was designed to provide health professionals with the tools they need for planning, implementing, and monitoring activities to optimize antimicrobial use in hospitals. 

The 12-week course included six modules on: (1) Introduction to the problem of bacterial resistance; (2) General and organizational aspects of AMS programs; (3) Microbiological and pharmacological aspects; (4) Education and use of information technology in AMS programs; (5) Other elements essential for the development of AMS programs, and (6) AMS programs and COVID-19: Approach to comprehensive disease management.

Professionals of the Americas complete PAHO course to improve country surveillance of antimicrobial consumption

More than 570 professionals completed the course on World Health Organization methodology for the surveillance of antimicrobial consumption, offered by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO). This second edition of the course was taken by professionals from Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Spain, Guatemala, Haiti, Mexico, Honduras, Paraguay, Peru, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

The five modules of this online self-learning course were offered at PAHO's Virtual Campus for Public Health.
