Introduction
This course provides students with a basic understanding of the principles of healthcare technology planning and management - assessment, budgeting, acquisition, deployment, education/training, patient safety, maintenance, and replacement/disposal. Planning and management will focus on medical devices, clinical information systems, and converged technologies.
Purpose of the Course
To provide the participants with global best practices for health technology planning and management and allow them to gauge their understanding of this topic based on completion of assignments.
General Objectives
Throughout the course, it is expected:
- To give students a basic understanding of the guiding principles of healthcare technology planning and management
- Provide a methodology for improving the quality of medical devices, clinical information systems and converged technology through effective planning and management
- Help students better communicate with technical staff, clinicians, regulators, administrators, and technology vendors.
- Develop the student’s interest, and prepare them for further study and more advanced application of the principles.

Method
The course will utilize web-based content including text, photos, diagrams, flow charts, other figures, video, audio, links to other websites, and other web attributes to deliver content to students. The discussion forum will provide a high level of interaction between participants. Discussion Questions and Quizzes will take place throughout the course online as will the Exams.

Language and Duration
The course will be offered in English. The duration is 12 weeks. The workload over the 12 weeks is 50-60 hours.

Requirements and Workload
- Professionals (engineers, medical doctors, managers and other related specialties) that have or are interested in developing duties related to biomedical technologies within the health system or at health institutions.
- It is recommended that the student have completed university level courses in business, technology, engineering or management and have one-year experience in management or administration with responsibility for some aspect of healthcare technology.
